After showcasing the bike at an AutoCar India Performance Show in Mumbai, Bajaj has finally launched the Pulsar 200 in Mumbai at a price tag of 72,530 (On Road Mumbai). The bike isn’t fuel injected like the Pulsar 200 220 DTS-Fi, and is carbureted.
So what’s up in the Pulsar 200?
- The bike is air cooled, and Bajaj has employed an additional Oil Cooler.
- The bike produces 18 bhp peak power, with 1.75 Kgm of torque.
- The gearbox receives pressurized lubrication,
- Tubeless tyres, 90/90 front and 120/80 at the rear,
- Black pain scheme, as available on P180,
- Other equipment, which are now a standard Pulsar equipment are also included like LED tail lamps, Headlamp encaged in a black casing (called the Phantom Headlamp), Digital Console, back lit switches, and split rail grabs (Available elsewhere only on P220, and not on P150 and P180).
- Distinguishing from the existing Pulsar sibling, this bike has a new tank cowl.
- No Kick Lever, so Only Electric Start
- No chain cover, which enhances the sporty look.
- Rear pegs are taken behind, than those available on commuter bikes, to give a sporty riding position.
Chk out these pics posted on Xbhp.com
My Take:
I again would like to write here the same that I’ve been discussing on many forums. What about the exclusivity? With the P220’s features being carried on towards lower versions of the bike, it leaves one wondering that how to make himself an exclusive owner of the bike, or in other words how does his bike remain different from lower versions. Bajaj either should have changed, P220’s styling to make it a different bike altogether, the bike no matter its styling, is a step ahead of all bikes in India as of now.
The P220’s price is also close to the P180, around 5K, more, which may affect either’s sales.
Rest apart, I would chose this bike over P220, because of looks, and the sporty feel of the bike. This bike is good for those people, who want to buy a bike just for the shear joy of riding.

Update: (Date: 15/02/2007)
Bajaj Pulsar has been officially launched, with a price tag of Rs. 65,497. Also Rajiv Bajaj, said that the 220cc Fuel injected Pulsar shall be launched by May 07, with a price tag in the range 80 – 85 K.
And a confirmation to what I wrote in one of my earlier posts, The 200cc version of Avenger shall hit the market the next month after Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi, is launched i.e. in June 07.

hi, I think u have mixed the names in ur post. Do u mean 220 DTS-Fi for fuel injected?
And u obviously mean “P2O0’s price is also close….”.
By: Akx on February 13, 2007
at 11:49 pm
Worst part, as pointed out before, we will soon be seeing everyone (150,180) sporting the tank cowl fitting and the separate pillion seat.
Also, I agree that with P200 around, p180 would be wiped out completely. Makes no sense to buy p180 at all. Dont u think so too?
Bajaj is plain stupid (my steady opinion as of now:)) Where is the need to produce 4 variants of Pulsars? I dont know (nor care) which bike maker’s strategy from around the world they are trying to copy and produce.
Forget the re-sale value of the old pulsars. Total crap.
I rather wait for Yamaha or HH to get me something that is not 6 out of 10 Indian bikes sold.
Hey guys btw, dont you think that this is the TIME for independent bike modifying companies to rule?
By: Akx on February 14, 2007

a bike is so sexy & nice did have 1 mistake why u dont have a red decsk break in bike
By: sagir on February 14, 2007
at 5:32 pm
Hi AKX,
The bike I meant by Fuel injected one is indeed the O220, cos there’s no other bike which sports a Fuel ijection system, except for Glamour, but that;s not into discussion hehe.
Yea, even I was annoyed whwn they had so mant bike variants, within close price ranges. Eventually, the P180 shall suffer cos P220, is something many may not afford or only few may buy, and P150 is the golden goose of Bajaj, and they cant afford to loose its market. The P200, is simply better than P180, so the 180 tends to loose market.
Independent bike companies, well nuthin soon of that sort in India. Even when there are mant regulations of the RTO.

Hi, Vicky Thanks for the appreciation.
Well, I’m in GOa,and I cant tell you about the launch dates in B’lore. Please go to your nearest Pro biking showroom and enquire.
About the mileage of the P180. It should return a decent mileage of 40-45 Kmpl, but that depends on your riding habits.
Nuthin, can be said abt the mileage of the P200, because I have tested it, and also no bike mag has tested it so far.
I’ll have a update to this post once I read about it. Keep checkin for more.

@ Yogi,
From what I have known from the forum at XBHP.com,
The bike has a new battery, it is said to be maintenance free, reqquires only one top up in a year, and wont have any problems for cold start.
There’s no way one can verify these details regarding the batteries, and the company officials wil claim the best of it. So, only time will tell if the battery is really upto the mark.

Positives:
> Lots of firsts/techniloties.
> Good to see competition. This will result in we getting better bikes in the near future.
> Value for money.
Negatives:
> Same styling.
> Questions about quality of Clutch, Gear Shafts, Engine noise.
> Performance bikes should be built tough- with inferior bajaj spare parts, this bike if driven over 120 KMPH regularly will give up soon and end up in bajaj service centers- Once a part is replaced you cannot expect the same performance.
> Less Engine CC and more power means instablity. Remember they are using the same engine as 150 with increased bore size. I know some guys who converted CBZ engine to 200 CC by changing the core.
Better to wait and get the YAMAHA FAZER 250. If quality and not features is your only preference.

Yea Niraj, The problem of the faulty speedos and battery is faced by many P180 members, thats as I have learnt from many forums.
what ou could do is consult ur nearest Probiking showroom, and askk them to rectify the probs, under warranty. Take it to a good showroom, they’lll have all the parts.
Hope you have done your running in properly, and do take good car of your bike…

Yea David, Bajaj bike have always faced the Quality issue, many like Niraj, here in his comment has expressed his problem regarding faulty spares and more importantly, non availability of spares.
Bajaj should address this issue ASAP.

Now, since you have opted Bajaj bikes out of your consideration, You can look out fot the TVS Apache Upgrade, which is due this year, its rumoured to sport a 180cc engine.
From the Honda side, watch out for the Uni Upgrade, and possibly a 250cc launch by year end.
Yamaha may also get in their 165cc Gladiator by that time.
All I suggest is to wait as some goos bikes are in the foray.
The actual Sport bikes shall be on sale by 2008, thats when you will have many optionsto choose from.

wat abt 200 cc iam n an idea to buy 200 but if u suggest me the bst i would do so >>>>>>> i wanna good overall performance and quality with out any problems n any parts of the vehicle >>>>>>>>>>i want only bajaj pulsar>>
By: S.MUTHU on March 4, 2007
at 1:25 pm
Well Muthu,
Considering the fact that you have chosen to buy a Pulsar only, I would say it is a good choice, but they do have some problems to tackle like spare part problems, as cited by some commentators here.
Now, you want to decice upon a bike from the entire range of Pulsars, thats a difficult choice, and a lot depends upon your requirements.
If you are a bit concerned abt mileage, then go for the 150. Decent performance, with looks on par with the 180.
Go for the P200, if you like a bit of touring, better looks than the 150 nd 180, and more power. Edge out the 180 by the 200.
The 220 shall arrive a bit later, but that should be your choice if you would like a bit of aggresive styling, and of course more power, and a lot of other stuff like reare discs etc.
My choice amongst all would be the 200cc Pulsar, cos it has a stand out design, and promisis a decent performance.

By: subhayou on March 14, 2007

Well, I own an Apache, and I believe it is the right bike fot youngsters like you. TVS Apache, is the perfect teen bike in the country especially if you like doing stunts like wheelies and stoppies.
But I will sugget that you learn riding a geared bike first on a 100cc bike, get yourself acquainted and then you can go for the 150.
I would also suggest you to wait for some time, if you can, as TVS is in news of upgrading the Apache to higher cubic capacities.
Test ride the bike and then you shall be a better judge.

Hi maltesh,
Again i would like to appreciate your efforts put in here to keep the mass updated with the latest thing’s happening around!!!
Ok!! now coming to my Query!!!
- i came across a scrap posted by one of the member’s of a community related to the p-200(name of the guy-vee-max) that the production of this bike has been stopped in chennai?reason=unknown???
Can you update me on this….PLZ my e- mail address is chotarascal@hotmail.com feel free to post your detail’s(everyone).
There are many of us out here who were to book the bike but are now in 2 mind’s????????
By: vicky on March 28, 2007
at 11:08 am
Hi Vicky,
Thanks for the appreciation.
Well, as far as the news regading the stoppage of production of the bike is concerned, let me assure you there is no such thing happening. Its just a rumour. There is no reason why the production should be stopped, until and unless there’s some problem @ the workshop.
I havent heard of any production related defects about the bike.
One of the problems many Pulsar owners have been complaining is the faulty digital speedometers. Many on my blog, have said that it just stopped working.
If you have made up your mind over this bike, then go ahead and book the bike. Please verify about the speedo errors. from the dealer.
Check the battery on the bike, cos thats the only means you are going to start it.
Happy Riding, and do keep me informed regarding future developments of your bike.

Swaroop,
You are free to decide what to do on your bike, but I shall suggest not to do those changes.
Spare parts costs, etc you shall get from you Bajaj workshop guys.
Only thing, it would de a desperate attempt to loose the exclusivity, of P180.

secondly, i am thinking abt the battery problem, as the bike has not the kick lever, may this can create a problem in cold days?

Hey guys !!
I really don’t understand the language here by many people…..many are simply praising Bajaj….a 200cc…some are saying Indian company…some are saying this is great bike….well well whatz up GUYS ??????
My friends’ P200 is in serious issues, he bought it out of his first savings and after 6 days there was aload sound…dunno…it’s at service center…..please understand that it is just a P180 + 20cc engine….also don’t expect great improvements on gearbox front….it is still typical Bajaj gearbox….what’s that front panel attached to tank it looks so horrible….very bad…the height / lenght are not correct for the bike…the CG is still at higher point…turning radius is painful in cities….and finally…Bajaj still has not mastered bike making….it’s sad that you get punished after paying 70K odd bucks !!!
All I can tell is P200 is not good bike as of now….it may be re-launched sooner or later…the guys going for this will repent later….go for Zma…wait for yamaha 165…

The Bajaj Pulsar is A great bike but with lots of Suprises….i heard like a thousand bad things about this bike…..the digital console gives FALSE readings, the ENGINE GIVES Weard Sounds.
This kind of things are not quite Contenting.
The Bike In its terms is SIMPLY TOO GOOD…But the Sad part is that it gives only 40 km/l
so this might be a little Sad
well over all the bike is a Monster..its simply too good..
Now the P200 stands at the top most position of our country..
By: Akash on April 24, 2007
at 1:59 pm
Akash,
You can’t expect the bike to give 108kmpl like a platina.
Thats what you get from a 200cc bike.
its even sadder to learn this, when mileage figures are debated upon on such bikes.
By: Maltesh Ashrit on April 25, 2007
at 10:20 pm
Hi Guys,
its good the read thru all the debate tha goes on for the 200cc,but dont you think that a bike company should come out for an exchange offer, for eg:like cars, Mauriti…I think baja should come up with the same idea since their 180cc is gonna be pickled, come out with the EXCHANGE offer.

Thanks for the appreciation Shailendra,
Go for the P200, in comparison with the P180. There aint much cost difference, and the problems with the fork too are fixed.

Hi Maltesh,
2 days bak I’ve bin 2 a Bajaj showroom and I’ve seen both P200 and P220 bikes. Inspite having lot of features with P220, P200 is damn gud. My ‘Q’ is that “Can I put a Disc Brake for P200 for back wheel and Can I put the Headlight of P220 to P200? Please let me know. I’m ready to pay for that.
Thanks,
Cherry

Well the bike’s really stunning. But absence of kick start sounds little confusing.I don’t know why Bajaj did so.

Hi, i hav a p 200 n ride it to extreme…..if we have a powerful machine n we dont push it then there is non point having that power under the seat…..i had this bad habit for quite a long time now…after some time with the p200 i found that it performs but it screams a lot….it stops being smooth..i dont hav an exp of a karizma or a honda but this is what i found with p 200..the rear wheel becomes noisy…its heavy n indian roads make the rear make a lot of noise…the digital meter has stopped working..ie it doesnt indicate fuel propperly…rest is fine…yes if u set the carb as per your comfort the avg will drop….i needed power…so the avg is gone…n i dont care bout that..so buy this bike
