Bajaj launches Pulsar 200cc DTSi in Mumbai

After showcasing the bike at an AutoCar India Performance Show in Mumbai, Bajaj has finally launched the Pulsar 200 in Mumbai at a price tag of 72,530 (On Road Mumbai). The bike isn’t fuel injected like the Pulsar 200 220 DTS-Fi, and is carbureted.

So what’s up in the Pulsar 200?

  • The bike is air cooled, and Bajaj has employed an additional Oil Cooler.
  • The bike produces 18 bhp peak power, with 1.75 Kgm of torque.
  • The gearbox receives pressurized lubrication,
  • Tubeless tyres, 90/90 front and 120/80 at the rear,
  • Black pain scheme, as available on P180,
  • Other equipment, which are now a standard Pulsar equipment are also included like LED tail lamps, Headlamp encaged in a black casing (called the Phantom Headlamp), Digital Console, back lit switches, and split rail grabs (Available elsewhere only on P220, and not on P150 and P180).
  • Distinguishing from the existing Pulsar sibling, this bike has a new tank cowl.
  • No Kick Lever, so Only Electric Start
  • No chain cover, which enhances the sporty look.
  • Rear pegs are taken behind, than those available on commuter bikes, to give a sporty riding position.

Pulsar 200 Black

My Take:

I again would like to write here the same that I’ve been discussing on many forums. What about the exclusivity? With the P220’s features being carried on towards lower versions of the bike, it leaves one wondering that how to make himself an exclusive owner of the bike, or in other words how does his bike remain different from lower versions. Bajaj either should have changed, P220’s styling to make it a different bike altogether, the bike no matter its styling, is a step ahead of all bikes in India as of now.
The P220’s price is also close to the P180, around 5K, more, which may affect either’s sales.
Rest apart, I would chose this bike over P220, because of looks, and the sporty feel of the bike. This bike is good for those people, who want to buy a bike just for the shear joy of riding.

Update: (Date: 15/02/2007)

And a confirmation to what I wrote in one of my earlier posts, The 200cc version of Avenger shall hit the market the next month after Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi, is launched i.e. in June 07.

Read The Hindu Report.

  1. its a great bike,i o the p 180 its awesome

  2. excellent,mind blowing

  3. I hate bajaj and all its products !!

  4. I love Bajaj for the way they are raising the level of Biking in India…

Makes me a Proud Indian to see an Indian Company doing so well

  5. Yea Satadal, feels good to see that an Indian company giving head on competition to the Japs.

  6. when is it going to be launched in kolkata i m eagerly waiting for it

  7. Oliver, I cant tell you when it shall be launched in Kolkata, If there is a Pro biking showrroom in your city, then you can visit it and find out when it shall be launched, else visit your nearest Bajaj dealer to get the details.

  8. the bajaj pulsar 200cc is totally cool

  9. when it’s gonna launch in Kolkata? Can anyone pls tell?

  10. deadly bike

  11. hi, I think u have mixed the names in ur post. Do u mean 220 DTS-Fi for fuel injected?
And u obviously mean “P2O0’s price is also close….”.

  12. Worst part, as pointed out before, we will soon be seeing everyone (150,180) sporting the tank cowl fitting and the separate pillion seat.
Also, I agree that with P200 around, p180 would be wiped out completely. Makes no sense to buy p180 at all. Dont u think so too?
Bajaj is plain stupid (my steady opinion as of now:)) Where is the need to produce 4 variants of Pulsars? I dont know (nor care) which bike maker’s strategy from around the world they are trying to copy and produce.
Forget the re-sale value of the old pulsars. Total crap.
I rather wait for Yamaha or HH to get me something that is not 6 out of 10 Indian bikes sold.

Hey guys btw, dont you think that this is the TIME for independent bike modifying companies to rule?

  13. a bike is so sexy & nice did have 1 mistake why u dont have a red decsk break in bike

  14. Hi AKX,

The bike I meant by Fuel injected one is indeed the O220, cos there’s no other bike which sports a Fuel ijection system, except for Glamour, but that;s not into discussion hehe.

Yea, even I was annoyed whwn they had so mant bike variants, within close price ranges. Eventually, the P180 shall suffer cos P220, is something many may not afford or only few may buy, and P150 is the golden goose of Bajaj, and they cant afford to loose its market. The P200, is simply better than P180, so the 180 tends to loose market.

Independent bike companies, well nuthin soon of that sort in India. Even when there are mant regulations of the RTO.

  15. Hi Maltesh firstly really appreciate your efforts to provide us with the latest info in the automobile indus…cheers
well now to my query-when will pulsar 200cc be launched in Bangalore
Whats the mileage we can expect from it. and current lileage of the 180 dts-i..plz revert back thank you

  16. current “Mileage” sorry!!!

  17. Hi, Vicky Thanks for the appreciation.

Well, I’m in GOa,and I cant tell you about the launch dates in B’lore. Please go to your nearest Pro biking showroom and enquire.

About the mileage of the P180. It should return a decent mileage of 40-45 Kmpl, but that depends on your riding habits.

Nuthin, can be said abt the mileage of the P200, because I have tested it, and also no bike mag has tested it so far.

I’ll have a update to this post once I read about it. Keep checkin for more.

  18. Thanks a ton dude! great job!cheers!!!

  19. Hey Maltesh,
I meant the introduction paragraph on this page. You’ve written “Pulsar 200 DTS-Fi”.
Thanks for reverting back on this. Waiting.

  20. Kudos, you are indeed doing a great job!

  21. Oops, Goofed it.

    Thanks for letting me know.
    I’ll change it Immediately.

  22. if batteri IS over Of pulsar 200cc than what
i means to say that there is no kick na ,than if batter is over than ,how many time batter with start
OR whats thE avrag of bajaj pulsur 200cc PLZz just tell ME averg Of that bike

  23. hey guys..anyone noes when is bajaj pulsar coming out in singapore???

  25. when will bajaj p200 cc launches in coimbatore

    milleage??????????

    cost on road ?????????

  26. About Mileage, No mag has yet published a test report on it, and neither have I test ridden it.
But I expect it to be around 40 – 45 Kmpl.
Price, Onroad it should be around 70K,
please read the article, I’ve mentioned it over there.

  27. could i know the mileage of it..because its awesome bike and without knowing mileage my parents wont allow me to buy..

  28. @ Yogi,

From what I have known from the forum at XBHP.com,
The bike has a new battery, it is said to be maintenance free, reqquires only one top up in a year, and wont have any problems for cold start.

There’s no way one can verify these details regarding the batteries, and the company officials wil claim the best of it. So, only time will tell if the battery is really upto the mark.

  29. Bajaj is a shit . Best bike is herohonda xtreme no 1…just watch.

  30. hey gilo if bajaj is shit!!! why do you even wanna check out the web details??? and speakin about the hh’s talk about it when it comes till then just shut the **** up!!!

  31. excellent and marvelous bike specially it had in the fifth gear its beat evebody in road .

  32. Yeah guys i feel the need and the reason for indipendant companies to start playin in dis market by modifying existin indian bikes… obviously u cant expect every1 to have r1 or hayabusa… mso better modify it thru genuine companies….. m i rong newhere???

  33. bajaj made its greatest mistake they should have equally upgraded with all the looks of 200cc

  34. why to take 200 when dtsfi is launching soon

  35. can i know the name, address of bike modifier in bombay any one knows here

  36. Positives:
    > Lots of firsts/techniloties.
    > Good to see competition. This will result in we getting better bikes in the near future.
    > Value for money.

    Negatives:

    > Same styling.
    > Questions about quality of Clutch, Gear Shafts, Engine noise.
    > Performance bikes should be built tough- with inferior bajaj spare parts, this bike if driven over 120 KMPH regularly will give up soon and end up in bajaj service centers- Once a part is replaced you cannot expect the same performance.
    > Less Engine CC and more power means instablity. Remember they are using the same engine as 150 with increased bore size. I know some guys who converted CBZ engine to 200 CC by changing the core.

Better to wait and get the YAMAHA FAZER 250. If quality and not features is your only preference.

  37. bajaj well actually i got a new bajaj pulsar 180 CC but it ain’t that good its not even been 2 months i have alot of complains over it…….. 1790 km my battery n my speedo meter was spoilt….. n i had a hard time runnin over it i wanted to solve my prob of walkin but got a new problem of repairing n running over for its parts….i m a student n i don’t wanna waste my time thats the reason i bought the bike….anyways if ya’ll could do something useful to help me i would be gald…..

  38. Yea Niraj, The problem of the faulty speedos and battery is faced by many P180 members, thats as I have learnt from many forums.

what ou could do is consult ur nearest Probiking showroom, and askk them to rectify the probs, under warranty. Take it to a good showroom, they’lll have all the parts.

Hope you have done your running in properly, and do take good car of your bike…
    :)

  39. Yea David, Bajaj bike have always faced the Quality issue, many like Niraj, here in his comment has expressed his problem regarding faulty spares and more importantly, non availability of spares.

Bajaj should address this issue ASAP.

  40. i am a student and would buy a bike on the month of july.about bajaj i have a scooter and a scooty of bajaj.the scooter is 25yrs old and still runs pretty good with top speed of 75-80. however p180 gave probs to my bro and i am confused on what to buy.i like sporty bikes.any other sporty bikes except that of bajaj is available?which one wud be the better choice?please advice.i now rely on u guys.

  41. Now, since you have opted Bajaj bikes out of your consideration, You can look out fot the TVS Apache Upgrade, which is due this year, its rumoured to sport a 180cc engine.

From the Honda side, watch out for the Uni Upgrade, and possibly a 250cc launch by year end.

Yamaha may also get in their 165cc Gladiator by that time.

All I suggest is to wait as some goos bikes are in the foray.
The actual Sport bikes shall be on sale by 2008, thats when you will have many optionsto choose from.

  42. could any one pls tellme wat bike to buy frm bajaj ; iam a student doin my 1st year IT and i wanna own a bajaj pulsar pls suggest me to choose the bst among 150cc,180cc,200cc,or 220cc plz reply as soon as possible thanx n advance

  43. wat abt 200 cc iam n an idea to buy 200 but if u suggest me the bst i would do so >>>>>>> i wanna good overall performance and quality with out any problems n any parts of the vehicle >>>>>>>>>>i want only bajaj pulsar>>

  44. Well Muthu,
Considering the fact that you have chosen to buy a Pulsar only, I would say it is a good choice, but they do have some problems to tackle like spare part problems, as cited by some commentators here.

Now, you want to decice upon a bike from the entire range of Pulsars, thats a difficult choice, and a lot depends upon your requirements.

If you are a bit concerned abt mileage, then go for the 150. Decent performance, with looks on par with the 180.

Go for the P200, if you like a bit of touring, better looks than the 150 nd 180, and more power. Edge out the 180 by the 200.

The 220 shall arrive a bit later, but that should be your choice if you would like a bit of aggresive styling, and of course more power, and a lot of other stuff like reare discs etc.

My choice amongst all would be the 200cc Pulsar, cos it has a stand out design, and promisis a decent performance.

  45. well thnx ashrit

  46. wat milage can u expect frm pulsar 200 cc???????

  47. I have answered this Question in a comment before..

  48. when will it be launched in bangalore am waitin for the p200 badly.. i dint get any info from the dealers..pls let me knoe

  49. in bangalore, pulsar 220 is already launched…….

  51. is it available in mumbai bajaj sai service show room , may i know its price and can i know the price of p220 and what are its features and when p220 is gonna launch in mumbai

  52. man itz so damn sexy

  53. Its crap. Get a Karizma instead.
In a straight line, the numbers show that its faster – but in the real world – in the city, on a racetrack – the Karizma will always, ALWAYS come out on top.

  54. i just bought pulsar 180cc couple on months back, this is bad i want to buy this bike, but my parents are saying NO, this is realy not done coz this bike is tooooooooo damn sexy……….!

  55. It’s amazing. It is a BOOM.

  56. The Pulsar 200 is amazing!! But the absence of kick lever is very disppointing. Bajaj why did you do this????

  57. i am a 12 standard student i dont know how to ride bike after 12 i want buy a bike. i want to buy tvs apache is it good for me? plz suggest me

  58. Well, I own an Apache, and I believe it is the right bike fot youngsters like you. TVS Apache, is the perfect teen bike in the country especially if you like doing stunts like wheelies and stoppies.

But I will sugget that you learn riding a geared bike first on a 100cc bike, get yourself acquainted and then you can go for the 150.

I would also suggest you to wait for some time, if you can, as TVS is in news of upgrading the Apache to higher cubic capacities.

Test ride the bike and then you shall be a better judge.

  59. it is good but it can be better they try diffrent sporty models like sporty bikes not similar ones

  60. Gud bike but i am wait 4 the gladiator 165cc and fazer 250cc

  61. pulsar 200cc Dts i is cool i m gonna waiting for this bike launch in hyderabad

  62. Hi,i am very passionate towards all kinds sportes bikes .I have p180 and i would like to get p200 or p220 in future .

  64. hi.m having new p180.now p200 is launched.i wanna know abt the prices of require parts which wil change my bike(new p180)into new p200……….so plz reply

  65. Hi maltesh,
Again i would like to appreciate your efforts put in here to keep the mass updated with the latest thing’s happening around!!!

Ok!! now coming to my Query!!!
    - i came across a scrap posted by one of the member’s of a community related to the p-200(name of the guy-vee-max) that the production of this bike has been stopped in chennai?reason=unknown???

Can you update me on this….PLZ my e- mail address is chotarascal@hotmail.com feel free to post your detail’s(everyone).

There are many of us out here who were to book the bike but are now in 2 mind’s????????

  66. Hi Vicky,
    Thanks for the appreciation.
    :)

Well, as far as the news regading the stoppage of production of the bike is concerned, let me assure you there is no such thing happening. Its just a rumour. There is no reason why the production should be stopped, until and unless there’s some problem @ the workshop.

I havent heard of any production related defects about the bike.
One of the problems many Pulsar owners have been complaining is the faulty digital speedometers. Many on my blog, have said that it just stopped working.

If you have made up your mind over this bike, then go ahead and book the bike. Please verify about the speedo errors. from the dealer.
Check the battery on the bike, cos thats the only means you are going to start it.

Happy Riding, and do keep me informed regarding future developments of your bike.

  67. Swaroop,
You are free to decide what to do on your bike, but I shall suggest not to do those changes.

Spare parts costs, etc you shall get from you Bajaj workshop guys.
Only thing, it would de a desperate attempt to loose the exclusivity, of P180.

  68. :)
Thats cool man thanks for the information still have to sell my old bike then will book this beast in another week or so,

    Anyways thank’s again

    Cheer’s

  69. Hi, Maltesh,

The bike is mind blowing , infact i have already booked Pulsar 200cc, but i haven’t got the delivery yet ( crossed 1mths ) stating reason that the delaer has not received the stock yet from the manufacturer..

secondly, i am thinking abt the battery problem, as the bike has not the kick lever, may this can create a problem in cold days?

    regards
    Suhas
    9833442696

  70. Hi Suhas,

I have enquired about the battery problem in the P200, in diff forums, and with many users, and I have learnt that there is no such problem regarding cold starting of the bike.

There were probs reported related to the digital speedos, pls chk them while you take the delivery of the bike.

You should the bike, it does take time occasionally…dont worry about it..

    Thanks
    :)

  71. Thanks Maltesh,

    thanks for ur reply…
I will check the digital speedos while taking the delivery..i am eagarly waiting for my bike….

    Regards
    Suhas

  72. Hey guys !!
I really don’t understand the language here by many people…..many are simply praising Bajaj….a 200cc…some are saying Indian company…some are saying this is great bike….well well whatz up GUYS ??????
My friends’ P200 is in serious issues, he bought it out of his first savings and after 6 days there was aload sound…dunno…it’s at service center…..please understand that it is just a P180 + 20cc engine….also don’t expect great improvements on gearbox front….it is still typical Bajaj gearbox….what’s that front panel attached to tank it looks so horrible….very bad…the height / lenght are not correct for the bike…the CG is still at higher point…turning radius is painful in cities….and finally…Bajaj still has not mastered bike making….it’s sad that you get punished after paying 70K odd bucks !!!
All I can tell is P200 is not good bike as of now….it may be re-launched sooner or later…the guys going for this will repent later….go for Zma…wait for yamaha 165…

  73. Hi Maltesh,
    I m a 12 standard student, I have booked a PULSAR 200 on 12Apr.
The Bajaj Guys said that i will get it within 2 weeks….

    I would like 2 thank u 4 keeping the updates ‘
I would like 2 find out if the 200cc monster have any weak points, IF ANY ,Plzz could u leave a reply regarding the problems so that i could check it before the delivery….

    Pravin

  74. i want 2 buy pulsar 220cc may i know its price and colours

  76. i m thinkin of buyin p200 bt i m jus curious abt the fact tat there is only electric start no kick start… wat hpns if the electric start fails… then wont one be stuck

  77. hi,
i am in a liitle bit confusion, as i am planning for p200, but will it be economical as p150…. how much milage i m going to have..

  81. hi, when is this P200 going to be introduced in Singapore>>>> I am planning to buy a pulsar now (may be this week). Should I wait till P200 to get the latest out of it.

  82. The Bajaj Pulsar is A great bike but with lots of Suprises….i heard like a thousand bad things about this bike…..the digital console gives FALSE readings, the ENGINE GIVES Weard Sounds.
This kind of things are not quite Contenting.
The Bike In its terms is SIMPLY TOO GOOD…But the Sad part is that it gives only 40 km/l
so this might be a little Sad

well over all the bike is a Monster..its simply too good..
Now the P200 stands at the top most position of our country..

  83. Akash,

You can’t expect the bike to give 108kmpl like a platina.
Thats what you get from a 200cc bike.

its even sadder to learn this, when mileage figures are debated upon on such bikes.

  84. Hi Guys,
its good the read thru all the debate tha goes on for the 200cc,but dont you think that a bike company should come out for an exchange offer, for eg:like cars, Mauriti…I think baja should come up with the same idea since their 180cc is gonna be pickled, come out with the EXCHANGE offer.

  85. I have pulsar 200cc n having a problem with it company is not providng the parts for it, can anyone tell what to do . as mycoil colent is leaking but the services center of bajaj say that the company in not gieing the parts its a1.5 month stilli donot get the part change .

  86. hii ,
plz help ..i m plannin 2buya bike ..n m confused over bajaj p200cc and karizma .. cost are almost same…
    neither mileage varies so much…
karizma is still not common as pulsar.
and i m a stunt freak..ovius the bike will have 2 go thru many accidents …which1is better ???
    which 1 do u prefer buyin b/w these 2.

  87. Oh ya…….i m gonna get the P200…..with all my might i pray that the problems that i have just read…….wont happen with me……..So WATS THE DEAL GUYS DOES THE NEW P200 ALSO HAVE MANUFACTURE PROBLEMS……SOME 1 HELP ME OUT…..

  88. very informative blog buddies..special thanx 2 Maltesh Ashrit for sharing such good informations.i m a mech engg working in Indian Oil,mathura refinery.i m planning to buy a pulsar 180.shud i go for it.or shud i think 4 d 200.

  89. Thanks for the appreciation Shailendra,

Go for the P200, in comparison with the P180. There aint much cost difference, and the problems with the fork too are fixed.

  90. hi,maltesh

i m in a very confused state.i dont know wheather to buy p180cc or 200cc.my concerns regarding p200cc are oil leakage, no kick leaver and mileage. wats the diff between 180 and 200 regarding mileage? will electric start always be working efficiently?wat if electric start failssssssssss?

please guide me and reply fast.

  91. **********regarding avenger 200cc***************

hey guys m really sorry to break the flow of discussion…

but can someone please tell me when is the avenger200cc comin out..

  93. Hi Maltesh,

2 days bak I’ve bin 2 a Bajaj showroom and I’ve seen both P200 and P220 bikes. Inspite having lot of features with P220, P200 is damn gud. My ‘Q’ is that “Can I put a Disc Brake for P200 for back wheel and Can I put the Headlight of P220 to P200? Please let me know. I’m ready to pay for that.

    Thanks,
    Cherry

  94. bike look is good but about the start if bajaj has given only electric starter but not given the kick starter. i want to know if the electric starter is not work then what is a second option to start the bike

  99. its good my love

  100. Hi, i hav a p 200 n ride it to extreme…..if we have a powerful machine n we dont push it then there is non point having that power under the seat…..i had this bad habit for quite a long time now…after some time with the p200 i found that it performs but it screams a lot….it stops being smooth..i dont hav an exp of a karizma or a honda but this is what i found with p 200..the rear wheel becomes noisy…its heavy n indian roads make the rear make a lot of noise…the digital meter has stopped working..ie it doesnt indicate fuel propperly…rest is fine…yes if u set the carb as per your comfort the avg will drop….i needed power…so the avg is gone…n i dont care bout that..so buy this bike

  101. Hai,

I have purchase a pulsur 150cc on 11/05/2007, throught ICICI Bank. And I was very happy with the performance of my bike and even i enjoy riding the bike pulsur 150cc. but unforunately my bike has been stolen on 19/12/2008. till now no idea where my bike is, when every i see pulsur some strees pass through me.
