Gaze at the pic, look at this stunner!!
Yamaha is all set to launch its 165cc Gladiator soon. The pic posted below is from last year’s Auto Expo, and even Overdrive has published the same pic in their Feb issue.
This bike is all set to Re – establish Yamaha as the performance king here in India
Overdrive reports that the 165cc motorcycle shall develop around 16.5 PS and complete a 0 – 60 sprint in less than 5 seconds. Overdrive also reported in its Jan issue, that Yamaha has already sent the bike for homologation.
The bike comes in two tone color, and superb looking engine guard (Something that many riders do as an after market mod). The bike seems to have a very sporty riding position, which can be inferred from the handles, and the rear peg position. The bike does not have a mono shock (Not evident from the pic), and is most likely to have gas/liquid filled shocks. I would have preferred this bike to sport a mono shock, which would add more to its international appeal.
Many of us in India had been expecting such a bike, from Yamaha after their RX and RD series of two stroke engine bikes, but what came from them was not up to the mark, or rather I say at time not up to the competition either. Many of their bikes like Crux R, Fazer, and Libero haven’t been able to make a mark in the market as their earlier bikes did. Off late their Gladiator has been a good product and is certainly the best bike in its class, more for the reason that it gives a big bike feel, and one does feel that it should have had a 150cc engine below the tank.
So Yamaha have answered to all of us, although it’s a bit late considering the last big launch was the RD 350. All hopes alive that this bike is ‘Truly Yamaha’
Update:
More Pics of the bike at the Auto Expo 2006, from Xbhp.com: Click Here

I am not able to see the picture of Gladiator 165cc , it s a very good move by Yamaha, being a big fan of Yamaha I am afraid to say that the launch is too late….Bajaj and HH are increasing their horizon by launching 200cc+ bikes….Yamaha is launching 165cc???…Well I had a Yamaha RXG/Rd350 which I have sold it….One thing can be sure it would be much better than reigning 150cc….

Do you have any specifications about this bike.
Or features or anything about this bikes launch. Time date month.
I have no Idea.
Not even net has given any news about this bike.
So I think its for 2009 launch in Kerala.

Dude it isnt a good news if its not being launched this year.
Can you specify the source of your information?
I repeat, Overdrive has reported in its Jan issue that Yamaha has already sent it for homologation. So I have every right cause to believe that it should be launched this year.
Many of us would know that Yamaha, does delay in launching its bikes. No one has ever been able to figure out the reason. But I hope that should not be the fate of this bike and is launched as early as possible.
It should not be launched in such a phase that competition is way ahead of it.

Its not at all necessary for the showroom officials to know everything. Dont rely on that at all. Infact, the showroom executives dint even have any info about Gladiator 125 Cc even, but that dint stop it from hitting the market. All we can do is to wait and watch.
By: myownlife on February 21, 2007
at 3:55 pm
Hey Yams,
I’m eagerly waiting for this machine to hit the road ,
I have already waited for a long and results were disaster in form of libero, crux, enticer and fazer.
Its still the RX series that is in demand and ahead in the road races and the chases.
The legendary RX bikes are sufficient to combat the 150 segment on road in terms of power and maintainence.
But now to compete with the higher segments, I really need a better weapon to combat.
So if anybody who can pitch it to right place , please do the needful.
SO that people get a quality bike.
Wait and Watch policy hardly works in a competitive market.
Hope the Japanese co knos that its stupid to die in a war with a weapon still undrawn.
You have better weapon,, pull it out ,
We want to use the road slashers.
BUT BE QUICK.

I,m From U.S.A and i have a 2005 Bajaj Pulsar 150cc in punjab and i just got back from india and going back in Feb 2008 so i hope they have this bike out by then so i can sell my Pulsar and get this one. And i,m also thinking about importing a Suzuki GSX-R 600cc Bike from here to my pind in punjab. do u guys think that would be a good idea because i,m getting tired of these 150 to 250cc bikes in india i want something that is eye turning with proformance.

Hi ! Pardeep,
2008, is the year for truly performance oriented bikes.
Many bike are expected to hit the market by then.
Well, as for a GSX, well if you can import then go ahead, it would definately be a head turner and a step ahead of the bikes in India. If you can contact the suzuki officials here in India, and talk to them regarding servicing etc. and esp if they are planning any such launches here. If they can provide the service attention it needs, then it shall be a boon.

Am in the que for the launch of a 150+ from Yamaha for the past 2 4 yrs when HH and Bajaj came into market. I felt i was beaten. But i see tat YBX rocks as it beats Pulsar 150 and CBZ in pick-up as i always race them in signals. Then i lose out to them in the top gear…. I dont like a Yam to loose out to @#$%&* Bajaj atleast…

I’ll believe it when Yamaha officially launches it. And until then, I’ll just sit tight…16.5 BHP from a 165cc? Not impossible, but then can we even dream of Karizma like power from an engine that is 60cc smaller?

Well Am carrying a bajaj 180cc from past two year. i would like yamaha to push the horizon more by launching atleast 200cc bike….I will be the first person to take it…..but i have heard that yamaha is having some labour problem which is delaying the launch…well 16.5 bhp from 165cc is too much…even though its 165cc but it will be much better than the bajaj and HH an TVS

Hi Maltesh,
This is the 1st time i’ve been to your blog, and i must say that u have done a really fantastic job, BRAVO!!!! Well what i saw here is a real promising comeback from the sleeping giant. The bike kooks promising enough to take on a sensetive market like India, feel the design inspiration is from the “Bimota” but impressive!!!!! I would like to just make a remark or two here. No doubt the bike looks fabulous and has every element in it which can make it a winner but what impressed me a lot was that as you have mentioned here that it has a displacement of 165 CC and churns out a very healthy 16.5 PS, the guys at Yamaha must have been banging their heads on the engine design, and i do hope this beauty has a fuel injector rather than a carb, i hope to see cutting edge technology in this bike to make it standalone in the crowd. Thanks for the information, and keep on the look as to when is this gonna be launched.
Regards.

Wow! Thats good news. I am the proud owner of Yamaha Libero G5 and did not want to switch to higher up versions of Pulsar , TVS etc since I was very sure that Yamaha would come up with higher CC bikes in its own big style and become the market leader once again. But then there are few concerns too, a bike would not be liked only for looks and splashing appearance but it is the performace of the bike over a long period of time that counts finally. As per me though i love my G5 , it was not up to expectations as such. It is too early to comment on performance and We will have to wait until this bike is launched. Yamaha is already too late in launching higher CC bikes but then one cannot forego the fact that Today Yamaha Galdiator 125 CC compete with any bike except Pulsar 150CC and above.

Hey maltesh ,
Buddy you sure Yamaha gladiator is coming out, coz all i could see was ALBA -ALBA, another disaster from yamaha, i own and enticer and very proud of it, it was the only model was selling in metros, and had something going for yamaha now they stopped it’s production too, RXZ 5 speed the only old school Power box which was available was also stopped due to emission norms, and what makes anyone take yamaha for economy, it just does’t go with the brand, the brand has made it’s place for un-matched performance and high level of quality..that’s yamaha not a eco-commuter
Dude, you sure these bikes are coming otherwise all yamaha fans have to turn their flags down and have no option then to take Bajaj or HH

Maltesh, it a very good efforts from your site to post this blog and keep the interest running for yamaha, but yamaha is not doing justice to all yamaha fans efforts…I dont believe there is any yamaha 165cc because I asked the Yamaha official dealer Alas! They have started selling bikes like bajaj discover and splendour? What can the dealer do? Yamaha had really killed our hope by launching 106cc ALBA, now bajaj have launched 200cc, and yamah is yet to launch 165cc. Please inform us from your source when yamaha is going to launch its motorcycle. other wise people like us wll have to buy HH Karizma or 200cc pulsar

Hi Guys,
I’m back once again, but today i’m not talking about gladiator-165.
)
Finally bajaj has launched its much awaited beast the P-220.
But still not a single positive sign from YAMAHA that they r going to launch G-165 or Fazor-250. Yamaha promotional advertisements on indian TV channel r showing R-1 and GSR-600 and their logo+name.
Yamaha has recently launched its one of the (onec-again) disappoint bike ALBA.
I’m sure their next plans will be 75cc, 50cc, 25cc, and than a bike havin no engine (a padel operated bike)…..HA_HA_HA
Do somebody still have to say something……..

Hi Guys,
My name is paul….I am a designer….and i am one of the YAMAHA lover.I am comfortable with my YAMAHA YBX….Used to ride 100KM\H….I can say YAMAHA is a VIBRATION FREE bike….As it is 125CC it is having high pick up….So it will be really good if it is 150CC…As we know if YAMAHA put 200CC..Think about the mielage..so for overall consideration like level of people 150CC is the best one…….
And if you delay to launch this bike..you will loose your sale hope….Because people will loose the YAMAHA hope and trueness and they will start go for another brand..Why thay should wait and wait for your product…This is for YAMAHA company
For the above model Tank and seat level should be maintained…Where is the back aloy hold..Ypu dont have any other alloy wheel? where you got the back suspension…RX 100 model will be better…what is this scoop…please check the RXZ scooop
Better luck yamaha
