Going by this TOI report, Tata might have roped in the car brands Land Rover and Jaguar. Excellent was my reaction, with me being a Jaguar Fan, and this happens to be true then we can expect the cars roll in in India.
But, the final word isn’t out, and this is likely to be a rumor. But the Tata’s aren’t behind, they are reportedly in the lead for the acquisition. TOI reports
Though the official word on the Land Rover and Jaguar sale has been mum, speculation mounted on Thursday that Tata Motors has indeed acquired these iconic brands. Another set of stories indicated that Tata Motors has emerged as the front runner for both brands. On their part, executives at Tata Motors declined to comment.
Ford too, seems interested inselling away the brands to Tatas, going by their reputation in the Automobile industry.
Prof Garel Rhys, of the Centre for Automotive Industry Research at the University of Cardiff, told a UK-based newspaper that Tata Motors is one of the few automotive companies with the firepower to outbid cash rich private equity investors in the fray.
“It is an incredibly efficient operation, much more profitable than Ford. They are the leading heavy truck builders in Asia and one of the biggest in the world.” If the Tatas are successful, it would have feelings of stewardship for old British assets, Prof Rhys added.
Thats indeed encouraging in nature, to leverage the Indian Car maker into a new level of competition, now as a Global competitor.
So what do we have if Tata’s acquires Jag and Rover? The Land Rover is on sale in India right now, may be they can widen their network, is the deal goes through. May be we can also find the luxury brand jaguar, bring in more models. As I would hope, let the Tata’s acqure the bands.
And I did hear a couple of days before that Tata may also help Ferrari set up their network in India, following up their ties with Fiat, and the Prancing Horse’s ties with TCS.
