Jaguar’s new XF: Radical new design, but tradition styling shift disappoints

Jag 1

Jaguar has recently launched its new XF slated to be on sale from March 2008. The shift in the styling is the one that fuels the debate. Jag fans shall definitely notice a major shift in styling elements, what has made the debate is that the car looks a lot American and less Brit. With me being a fan of sharp American styling, and the lovely curves of the German and Italian cars, I felt the nose of the car is very much American in style. The positioning of the headlights is also awful. The back end of the car does look ok. Overall, this car is not cent percent Jaguar. Many on this site say that it does look like a Buick and the nose resembles a Hyundai.

Apart from the criticism it faces, if you forget that it’s a Jag, you shall find the design a bit interesting. The styling elements do look good, but not a Jaguar. You would feel that the car is a coupe, when viewed from distance (curse the nose for this) but it is a complete sedan.

Read this excerpt from here,

The XF is a four-door Jaguar that fuses the style and performance of a sports car with the refinement, space and sophistication of a luxury saloon.

The exterior styling of the XF is the first expression of Jaguar’s new design language in a saloon car. With interior design that is the equal of the exterior in terms of crafted execution and visual excitement, the XF offers a truly contemporary, luxury environment.

That’s what the official press release had to say, but unfortunately the car’s new design elements do not seem to please many. The interiors are also hasn’t pleased many especially with the gear changer (see above) being very unconventional. Read the links below for detailed explanation, I don’t want to copy paste the rest of the article as a quote. To conclude, I hope Jag gets in cars that would returns to its earlier design statements. For the price: £33,900 in UK.
