I had scooped the Honda Jazz way back, and here’s some more new on the premium hatch from Honda called the Jazz, slated for an late 2008 launch in India. The new version of the car shall soon be launched at the Tokyo Motor Show, and Autocar (Oct 07 issue) reports that it will share the running gear with the City, the upgrade of which is also expected next year. Competition in the form of Skoda Fabia, Hyundai Getz Prime and Chevy Aveo U-VA shal be seen by the global super selling car.
For the engine options, speculations run that Honda may use a 1.2L engine to avail advantages of the norms of a small car, as reported on Autocar. The pics depict a high end hatch for India, and probably a RS version with sporty alloys, Civic steering wheel, bigger wheels, etc will also be launched. Guess what, Honda is reportedly not considering a diesel version of the car. How sad!! Especially, when Indian car market is feeling good about diesel cars.
So the new car with the right curves and edges is slated for the 2008 launch if all goes as planned, and so be it. Oh yea, for the pricing, I know many would buy the car even if it is placed a few thousand bucks above the competition. After all it’s a Honda.
Attn: Pictures shown in the post are of the present version of the Jazz and not of the Updated version

I drove this car to Inverness (northern most city of Scotland) for a weekend (800 miles=1200km). The car was a rental car with just 27 miles on the odo when I picked up. It was terrible car to drive, no fun, no pick up and the rear wheel dive into the body with 4 adults and weekend backpacks! Absolutely low fuel efficiency (11.75 kmpl). Came back home with a very stiff back, aching neck. Awful. Very poor seats (driver’s seat with no lumbar support and thin cushions. rear seats too upright).
And the sad fact is Honda will charge a premium for this lousy car and people will buy it. A swift is any day better. Much much better. Ouch!

Just rented this car in Thailand for 2 weeks. Did Bangkok – Phuket – Pattaya – Bangkok, around 3000 kms. Absolute beauty. Spacious, decent pickup. No problems with the seating. Ample boot space. I am not sure why Ajish faced problems with it but i got bout 15 kms/l.

In order to cash in on the Indian excise norms, what I understand is the length would be limited to 3.8m and Engine to sub 1.2L. Not sure if Honda India would be launching Jazz models with Engines bigger than that.
But I feel with 1.2L engine, it would be a bit underpowered visavis the image Jazz carries. I don’t think, Honda has launched Jazz with sub 1.2L engine. So we, in India, may see Jazz falling below our expectations. However, I see it loaded with all the safety and comfort features that are normally available in City/Civic.
